The 2024-25 Season is fast approaching...

With the days getting longer, the start of the cricket season is nearly upon us! 2024-25 is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, and we are excited about all of the opportunities on offer over the coming months.

Skills Programmes

Nelson Cricket Holiday Programme
Registrations are now open for the upcoming School Holiday Programme run by Nelson Cricket. Targeted at School Years 3 - 8, this is an engaging way to spend the holidays learning new cricket skills and playing fun games. Days run 9am - 3pm at the Saxton Indoor Cricket Centre, so come for one or all!

Cost: $40 per day
Mixed days: 30th September | 2nd, 4th, 10th, 11th October
Girls-only days: 1st, 3rd, 7th October

Central Districts Holiday Programme
If you are aged 16 - 19 and want some extra training during the October school holidays, don’t miss the Central Districts holiday programme. With expert small-group coaching & specialist-led sessions on batting, seam bowling, spin, fielding, wicketkeeping, mental skills, and strength & conditioning, this might be exactly what you need to jump start your season!

Yeah! Girls Sessions
Yeah! Girls is back for 2024-25 and will be bigger and better than ever.  This year, it will run on Mondays at the Saxton Indoor Cricket Centre, with opportunities for girls in Year 1- 13. As a girls-only programme, this is a safe and fun environment to give cricket a go and find a new passion!

Cost: FREE
Dates: 4th November - 16th December

Coach Development

Smash & Adapt Coaching Development
Calling ALL parents and coaches who are coaching a youth team this season, or simply want to learn more about the Smash Play philosophy. The Smash & Adapt session will help build your knowledge of the Smash Play games and how to utilise these to teach fundamental cricket skills in a fun and exciting way.

Scoring

PlayHQ E-Scoring Training

To prepare for the 2024-25 cricket season, we will be holding a training evening for all scorers / coaches who want some extra training on PlayHQ's game day management and e-scoring. This session is open to all, whether this is your first year or you have been with PlayHQ from the start.

Playing Opportunities

Year 7-8 Development Sides
Nelson Cricket are calling for expressions of interest from players to participate in our Year 7-8 development sides for 2024-25. We will be looking to send a boy’s side to Westport (5th - 8th January 2025) and girl’s side to Christchurch (15th - 17th January 2025) to participate in their respective development tournaments.

Nelson Pathway Teams
Nelson Cricket will once again send sides to the various Central District age group tournaments. Here are this year’s details:
Yr 10 Boys: 12th - 15th January in Levin
Yr 11 & 12 Boys: 10th - 12th December in Napier
Yr 9 & 10 Girls: 11th - 13th December in Palmerston North
Yr 11 & 13 Girls: 9th - 11th January in Whanganui

Women’s Summer Smash
The Womens Summer Smash is Nelson's newest hardball cricket competition dedicated for women and girls.  Open to players of all abilities, games will be played on a Thursday evening from 5:45pm with playing shirts provided and gear available if required.

Festivals & Events

Multicultural & Women's Festivals
By popular demand, the Multicultural and Women's Festivals will be returning in 2024-25. We are in the early stages of planning, and more information will be shared closer to the time. However, in the meantime you can save the dates:

1st January 2025 - Multicultural Festival
8th March 2025 - Women's Festival

International Cricket
A reminder that international cricket is coming back to Saxton Oval in 2024-25. We are excited to be hosting the Sri Lankan men’s and women’s teams as the men take on the Black Caps in a T20I on the 2nd of January before the women take on the White Ferns in 2 ODIs on the 7th and 9th of March.

Tickets go on sale to Cricket Nation in September, and to the general public shortly after.  We cannot wait to see you there!
