The Nelson Emerging players were thumped by rivals, Marlborough, on a beautiful day in Blenheim on Sunday. A strong Nelson side on paper, took their opposition too lightly and paid the ultimate price of an embarrassing defeat, from a young Marlborough team who got on a roll when batting first. When Nelson finally realised the game was not the expected walkover, mainly through wayward bowling and poor catching, they couldn't drag back enough control to stop Marlborough scoring 230.
The locals were not without their own problems, bowling an unbelievable 50+ wides of their own! Despite this, Nelson still fell 30 short when batting, with no one really going on to a big enough score and many soft dismissals the order of the day. This was the 1st loss for the Nelson EP team and hopefully many lessons learnt.
