Nelson Griffins Women

Under 18 Women

Under 17 Boys

Coach – Simon Bixley

The under 17 side travelled to Napier to compete in the CD U17 tournament. This is the first age group where a CD team is named to attend the National U17 tournament. Unfortunately, the team was involved in a rain-affected first game fixture against Manawatu, and they lost on Duckworth lewis. Across the five days, the team played some extremely competitive cricket with a very high skill set showed by all 12 players. After the final day, Finn Raxworthy and Ronan Restiueax were named in the CD U17 team with Jonty Raxworthy named as a non-travelling reserve.

Under 15 Girls

Coach – Win Greenaway

The U15 girls travelled to Palmerston North which included players from Manawatu and Wanganui to help field 11 players. The makeshift side played a great brand of cricket with the girls representing Nelson proudly. Unfortunately, the tournament was badly rain-affected with the girls missing some cricket most days. However, the team still enjoyed every minute with every player getting some exposure to what tournament cricket is all about. The team improved immensely during the five days with Lottie Fuller not only being named in the CD U15 side but also as captain.

I would like to make a special mention to Win and Cate Fuller for the enormous amount of work getting the girls to Palmerston North and the job while at the tournament. An exciting group of girls for the future.

Thank you to Signature Homes for there ongoing support of this age group.

Under 15 Boys

Coach – Isaac Day

The tournament is held in Levin. It is the first age group where the team compete as part of the CD zone. An extremely hard-working team that plays and competes exactly how all sides should both on and off the field. The competition involves both T20 and 50 over cricket, meaning the team need to adjust quickly between games. The different playing formats allows players to experience different scenarios, and it presents many learning opportunities for players. Congratulations to Billy Powick who scored a 100 during the tournament.

South Island Primary School Girls

Coach – Dean McMillan

The side travelled to Christchurch to attend in the South Island Primary Schools tournament which is an excellent opportunity for our girls to experience tournament-style cricket for the first time. 5 T20 games across three days allowed for all players the chance to play various roles with both bat and ball.

Purpose of the tournament

  • Regarded as a development tournament.
  • To play some great cricket in a fun environment and make new friends.
  • To provide a pathway for the girls from Junior cricket through to youth cricket.
  • To enable the girls to benchmark themselves against girls, they do not know from other regions.

Thank you to Signature Homes for there ongoing support of this age group.

South Island Primary School Boys

Coach – Jay Irving and Scott Murffin

Travelled to Westport and attended the oldest cricket tournament in New Zealand having had players like Brendon McCullum and Daniel Carter play in previous years. The side performed exceptionally well making the final, which was a fantastic achievement. The tournament is all T20 cricket which is an excellent chance for players to have the opportunity of playing two games a day. This format allows all players a chance with both bat and ball.

Thank you to Signature Homes for there ongoing support of this age group.

Year 7 Boys

Coach – Merv Ward

The Nelson Year 7 rep side travelled to Christchurch where they took part in a festival-style format which involved coaching/skill days and short format games. The festival is based around skill improvement and the opportunity for players to learn and improve without the pressure of results. The feedback was nothing but positive, and the intention is to send two teams next season giving more players the opportunity to experience and improve while attending a tournament-style festival.

Thank you to Signature Homes for there ongoing support of this age group.
