110 over Round 3 preview
With the Nelson Pine Griffins team engaged in a vital Hawke Cup match in Westport, club cricket reverts to the local 110 over format on Saturday. The depth of all the teams will be well tested with underage representative tournaments also gnawing into clubs’ resources.
WTTU will be one of those teams under player pressure as they host the front-running Stoke Nayland line up. There are numerous regulars unavailable for the Jubilee Park clash and there will be plenty of opportunities for the club faithful amongst the home teams line up. They had last weekend off so will be hoping to re-boot their campaign. Stoke Nayland are also without a few of their regulars but will welcome the return of gnarled veteran Kurt Pahl back on the bus. Darius Skeaping is in magnificent touch and although they were placed under some stress by Wakatu last weekend Stoke Nayland will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten run in this competition.
In a repeat of last Saturday’s matchup Nelson College play ACOB, this time at Ngawhatu. College will rate their chances against the depleted ACOB team, who will rely on BJ Barnett and Greg Chitty. If one of these two gets going it would be worth the admission price just to watch that. Opener Akileash Reddy is making his senior debut and he has a sound technique to handle the moving new ball. The College 1st XI was outgunned in all departments last week but have been working hard throughout the week and will be expected to rebound.
Wakatu has the bye and matches commence at 11:30 am on Saturday.
