Central Districts Women’s T20 Tournament 2019 held at Levin

The Nelson Nyxons women’s senior rep cricket team have returned home after successfully competing in the CD T20 competition held in Levin on the 2nd and 3rd of February 4 T20 games were played over the 2 days in hot, dry conditions.  The Nyxons opened their campaign against Wairarapa in a low scoring game After a nervous batting display, the Nyxons bowled and fielded well to push a strong Wairarapa hard before losing by 4 wickets

The second game of the day saw Nelson up against last year’s winners and favorites Taranaki which featured two ex-White Ferns. A brilliant bowling display backed up by a good effort in the field saw Taranaki all out in the 17th over for just 63. Nelson batted well to reach this in the 14th over for the loss of 3 wickets

On the morning of the second day Nelson played a Horowhenua Kapiti invitational team featuring both a present and past white fern players Horowhenu batted aggressively to reach a healthy 152. Nelson fought hard to reach 128 in reply in an entertaining match

The final game saw the Nyxons play Hawks Bay who batted first. Again a very good effort with the ball and in the field restricted Hawks Bay with Nelson comfortably chasing the total down

Nelson finished the tournament with a 2 win and 2 loss record Coach Warren Brown said the girls really stepped up against some quality opposition and can be very proud of their performance.
