Final Round of TPL

Final Round of TPL Club Cricket

We are down to the final two games in regulation play of the TPL club cricket competition on Saturday.  While WTTU and Wanderers/Motueka are playing for pride only, Nelson College and ACOB both have championship aspirations in their sights.

At Jubilee Park in Richmond, WTTU hosts Wanderers/Motueka with both teams out of finals contention.  Although battling, these sides have still produced some good individual performances and solid results.  Joey O’Connor is fresh off his third century of the season for the home team, Tom Cross is about due to fire again, while skipper Sam Baxendine has produced some fiery spells with the ball. For Wanderers/Motueka Dave Leonard has re-visited his youth and looked very classy at times while Jack White has always been a dangerous bowler.

Nelson College is fresh off a couple of really big weeks of cricket.  As well as club play, in the last two weeks they have beaten Hutt International Boys School, Rathkeale College, Marlborough Boys High School, Christchurch Boys High School and St. Bedes College so have a number of players who are in good nick.  They will need to win with a bonus point to have any chance of securing a semi final berth as they play big brothers ACOB at Saxton Oval.  ACOB have already guaranteed themselves a place in the three team play offs, which will be held over the weekend of 22/23 February, so it will be interesting how motivated they will be to bully the schoolboys. Any slip up and these two teams could be battling it out again in the semi-final.

Both matches begin at 11:30 am on Saturday.
