Nelson Cricket is pleased to announce that Saxton Oval will host England for an International T20 on the 5th November as part of the Blackcaps 2019-2020 international schedule. This will be the first time that Saxton Oval has hosted England. This announcement comes on the back of Saxton Oval having established itself as a regular International venue over the traditional Christmas holiday period over the past 5 years.
This is a massive moment in the evolution of Saxton Oval. To attract a team of the caliber of England for a T20 in November establishes Saxton Oval as an International venue and Nelson as a region that can host high caliber teams throughout a cricket season. David Leonard General Manager of Nelson Cricket thanked New Zealand Cricket for their confidence in the venue, city and Nelson Cricket to host a team of England’s standing in the game. David also thanked Nelson City Council for their continued support in attracting world-class events to the city.
This will be the biggest cricket game ever hosted in Nelson. We are excited by the opportunity to host the Blackcaps and England in a T20 at Saxton Oval and are sure that the public of Nelson and around New Zealand will flock to what is one of New Zealand’s most picturesque venues in one of the most beautiful regions in New Zealand.
