WTTU retain the lead in T/20 Club Cricket
While Wanderers/Motueka put up a decent battle, the unbeaten WTTU unit maintained their stranglehold on the T/20 club cricket competition on Saturday. Hayden Ingham had a handy enough double for the home team at Brightwater, but WTTU are really putting the marker down in this league. They got home with the best part of three overs to spare as Joey O’Connor and Mason Thelin both provided meaningful contributions with the bat.
Wakatu picked up a rare victory over Car Company Stoke Nayland at Victory Square, but it was a close-run thing. A consistent batting display by Stoke Nayland saw them amass a creditable total. Dhamesha Rathayake bowled well, but 151 seemed about a par score. Daniel Hooper and Devon Serrurier begun well for Wakatu and the chase always seemed in hand. Serrurier remained in control of proceedings with a delightful undefeated half century and it was Bud Jackson who partnered him in the vital overs which took Wakatu home to a tense victory, with just 2 deliveries remaining.
Nelson College comfortably accounted for big brothers ACOB on a tough Botanics pitch. ACOB laboured through to 101 with Jake Milton being the only major contributor. The schoolboys used nine bowling options, and all performed well, with Dimitri van der Colk taking the honours. Finn Raxworthy ensured that College made short work of the run chase.
